Laḍḍuka

Laḍḍuka · laḍḍuka, “the sweet ball”

Grammar: masculine noun; the name of a round sweet.

Meaning: a sweet ball offered as naivedya (food offering). The Telugu of the text glosses it uṇḍrāḷḷu.

In the scriptures: Sumantu Muni says that the mūrti of Gaṇapati made of white arka root holds the laḍḍuka in the fourth hand, and that he is offered fragrant dhūpa and laḍḍukas (Bhavishya Purāṇa, Brahma Parva, Chapter 29). Among offerings to Bhagavān Sūrya, laḍḍukas are the best of naivedya (Bhavishya Purāṇa, Brahma Parva, Chapter 68), and the dearest to him among naivedyas (Bhavishya Purāṇa, Brahma Parva, Chapter 116).
