Kshauma
Kshauma
Grammar: neuter noun, from kshumā (flax).
Meaning: cloth; the print glosses it as silk.
In the scriptures: in the rule of the brahmacārī, the Brahma Parva names a cloth for each varṇa: śaṇa cloth for the brāhmaṇa and kshauma for the kshatriya. The vaiśya’s cloth is not printed (Brahma Parva, Chapter 3).
