Kalpadatta
Kalpadatta · kalpa-datta
Kalpadatta is a brāhmaṇa of Kāśī. The Pratisarga Parva of the Bhavishya Purāṇa tells that Devarāja Indra with the devas performed ārādhanā of Bhagavān Sūrya in the month of Pausha, and that Bhagavān Sūrya, pleased, said he would be born in Kāśī under the name Dhanvantari. Saying this, Bhagavān Sūrya came to Kāśī and was born as a son in the house of the brāhmaṇa Kalpadatta, under the name Dhanvantari. Sūta tells this to a muni, within the account Bṛhaspati gave Devarāja Indra and the devas at Prayāga.
