Śrāvasta

Śrāvasta

Śrāvasta is a king of the Ikshvāku line in the Satya Yuga. The Pratisarga Parva of the Bhavishya Purāṇa numbers him eleventh in the line from Ikshvāku. He was the son of Sushamā and ruled 35,000 years, and the text’s bracket says he founded the city named Śrāvastī. His son was Bṛhadaśva.

In his time, the text says, dharma stood on all four of its feet in all Bhāratavarsha: tapas, śauca, dayā and satya. All these kings of the line of Ikshvāku ruled the whole earth from Udayācala to Astācala with nīti and dharma.
