Rūpānanda (Rūpa Gosvāmī)

Rūpānanda · rūpa-ānanda, “the one whose delight is in form”

Rūpānanda, also known as Rūpagosvāmī, is called a great muni in the Bhavishya Purāṇa. The Pratisarga Parva tells that he and Jīvānanda heard of the life of Caitanya Mahāprabhu, came to Śāntipurī, and accepted discipleship when Kṛshṇacaitanya was sixteen years old. Being of great nishṭhā (steadfastness) in the path of bhakti, both became worthy of everyone’s honour. Obeying his guru, Rūpānanda composed the Kṛshṇakhaṇḍa, a part of the Purāṇa, of ten thousand ślokas. He was devoted to serving the guru and was a pūjaka of Rādhā-Kṛshṇa.

His coming to Śāntipurī

Being of great nishṭhā in the path of bhakti, both became worthy of everyone’s honour. At his order they lived there, performing pūjā of Kṛshṇacaitanya.
