Saptajana Āśrama
The Saptajana Āśrama was the āśrama (hermitage) of seven ṛshis. It lay on the road from Mount Ṛshyamūka to the city of Kishkindhā, in the southern forests. Bhagavān Rāma, Lakshmaṇa and Sugrīva passed it on their way to Kishkindhā for the battle with Vāli, and Bhagavān Rāma stopped there to pay homage to the seven ṛshis.
Where it lay
The Saptajana Āśrama lay on the route between Mount Ṛshyamūka and the city of Kishkindhā. It was the home of seven honoured ṛshis, and it held the holiness of their long tapas. (Vālmīki Rāmāyaṇa, Kishkindhā Kāṇḍa, Chapter 12)
Rāma’s homage
Bhagavān Rāma, Lakshmaṇa, Sugrīva and the vānaras with them were going to Kishkindhā for the second battle between Sugrīva and Vāli. On the way they passed this āśrama and paused. Bhagavān Rāma paid homage to the seven ṛshis and honoured their tapas before the fight ahead. That fight would decide the fate of the vānara kingdom, and in the end the rescue of Sītā. (Vālmīki Rāmāyaṇa, Kishkindhā Kāṇḍa, Chapter 12)
