61 - In praise of Mahājyesthi Full moon day in the month of Jyestha

Brahmā said: 

1. When the Mahājyeșthi occurs due to the contact of a zodiac and a constellation he should go to the holy place called Puruşottama. 

2. O brahmins, by visiting Krişhņa, Rama and Subhadra on the Mahajyeșthi day, the visitor obtains more benefit than that of twelve pilgrimages. 

3-16. By visiting Krishna on the Mahājyeșthi day he obtains the benefit as is obtained when the rites of ablution and charitable gifts are performed in the following holy places, rivers, etc. during the solar eclipse. They are-Prayaga, Kurukşhetra, Naimisa Puşkara, Gaya, Gangadvāra, Kuśāvarta, the confluence of Gangā and the ocean, Kokāmukha, Sūkara, Mathura, Marusthala (the holy desert region), Sālagrāma, Väyutirtha, Mandara, the confluence of Sindhu and the ocean, Piņdaraka, Chitrakūta, Prabhasa, Kanakhala, Sankhoddhāra, Dvăraka, Badarikāśrama Lohakunda, Aśvatirtha that liberates one from all sins, Kāmālaya, Koțitirtha, Amarakanţaka, Lohárgala, Jambūmärga, Somatirtha, Pruthūdaka, Utpalävartaka, Pruthutunga, Sukubjaka, Ekāmraka, Kedara, Käsi, Viraja, Kālañjara, Gokarna, Srisaila, Gandhamādana; Mahendra, Malaya, Vindhya, Päriyatra, Himalaya, Sahya, Suktimān, Gomanta, Arbuda, Ganga, Tirthas on the bank of Yamuna, Sarasvati, Gomati, seven rivers Brahmaputra, Godavari, Bhimarathi, Turgabhadra, Narmadā, Täpi, Payoşni, Kaveri, Kșipra, Carmaņvati, Vitastā, CandraBhågā, Satadrü, Båhudā, Rșikulya, Kumāri, Vipasa, Druşadvati, Sarayü, Gangā, Gandaki Mahanadi, Kausiki, Karatoya, Trisrota, Madhuvähini, Mahanadi Vaitaraņi and other rivers not mentioned there. 'O excellent brahmins, of what avail is much talk? All holy centres, all holy shrines, oceans, moun tains, rivers, lakes, etc, on the carth. 

17. Hence, o excellent sages, those who are desirous of attaining their longed for benefit, will assiduously go to Puruşottama on the Mahājyeșthi day. 

18-20. By visiting Rama and Krişhna together with Subhadra on the Mahäjyesthi day the devotee goes to the world of Vişhnu after uplifting his family. 

After enjoying great and excellent pleasures there, till the dissolution of all living beings he returns to this place when the merit dwindles. He will then be born as a brahmin mastering the four vedas. 

He will be devoted to his own duty. He will be peaceful. He will be a devotee of Krişhņa. He will conquer his senseorgans. By adopting the Yoga pertaining to Vişhnu, he will attain salvation.
