Summary of chapter 51 of the Brahma Mahā Purana is as follows:
Drawn by the divine light, Mārkaṇḍeya enters the mouth of a luminous infant reclining on a Vaṭa leaf amid the pralaya ocean. Within the child's belly the sage discovers the entire universe intact — all worlds, beings, mountains, rivers, and Devas. He wanders within for a long time, unable to find an end, until he is expelled through the child's mouth and finds himself again in the pralaya ocean. The child is revealed as Nārāyaṇa himself.
