Sūratha of Vidarbha
Sūratha was the king of Vidarbha. He came to the great gathering at Hāṭakeśvara, a sacred tīrtha (pilgrimage place), and there he married Citrāṅgadā, the daughter of Viśvakarmā. Viśvakarmā is the architect of the devas. Sūratha’s marriage is part of the Hāṭakeśvara wedding narrative in the Vāmana Mahā Purāṇa.
The marriage at Hāṭakeśvara
Many divine beings gathered at Hāṭakeśvara for the great weddings that took place there. Sūratha was drawn to this tīrtha by that gathering.
There he married Citrāṅgadā, the daughter of the divine architect Viśvakarmā. In this way a human king of the Vidarbha country was joined with a woman of divine family. The marriage was blessed by the grace of Hāṭakeśvara and by the ṛshis (seers) who were present.
